The Houston Photographic Society meets twice monthly from 7–9 p.m. each second and fourth Tuesday of the month from January through November. Our normal meeting place is located at the Tracy Gee Community Center, 3599 Westcenter Dr., Houston, TX 77042 (between Richmond and Westpark, just east of Beltway 8 in southwest Houston.)
The first meeting of each month, held on the second Tuesday, is our Program Night. A variety of special guest speakers and/or members present informative and educational programs to the membership. The programs range from film to digital, technical to artistic, and old methods to the latest technology.
The second meeting of each month, held on the fourth Tuesday, is our Print Critique. Members can submit no more than two matted prints of their most recent work in any given month. The prints are divided in color and black/white categories and by skill level (A or B). Once a new member has received 5 ribbons (1st, 2nd or 3rd place) they become eligible to move into Category A.
There is also a special category with a different theme for each month. All members can challenge themselves to interpret the theme photographically and receive input as to whether they pulled it off or not regardless of skill level.
Seasoned and respected guest judges in the photography community are invited to critique our work and provide our members with insight of ways they may improve upon their craft, which often includes both positive and constructive feedback. Ribbons may be awarded for first, second, third and honorable mention in each category.
Afterwards, the group is invited and encouraged to attend a "meeting after the meeting" at a local eating establishment for socialization.
