August 2010 Program Meeting
August 10 from 7-9 p.m. at the Tracy Gee Center
August's program will be a little different than usual. Bring your camera and any other gear you thing you might need or want to use because we will all be shooting in this meeting. The trick is, you have no idea what the subjects will be. This is seat of the pants interpretation and problem solving on your part. Hence the nickname "MacGyver Night".
There will be several stations set up around the room with different objects or scenes to photograph. Everyone will have a chance to shoot each station, but it’s not required. The idea is to see how each of us sees the same thing, learn a few tricks from our fellow HPS members, and to actually take a photograph in a photography club. Funny how seldom we do that last part. To see the results of our endeavor, at the November program meeting we will bring and discuss the prints we make. Note this is not a regular print competition; no groups, no categories, no ribbons, no restrictions. This is to allow unadulterated creativity on your part. There will not be a judge. What we will have is a round table type discussion of the prints from you and your peers. I realize that this means more prints to make for everyone in November. You don’t have to make prints of everything there or make them as large as you can print them. We won’t be bringing each shot up individually and critiquing them as usual, but discussing them as a whole and using the individual shots as examples or for specific questions.
A couple notes: We still have to be out by 9 p.m., that is walking out the door. If you bring a huge amount of gear you have to give yourself time to pack it back up. We’re in a small room so you probably won’t have to bring out your super-telephotos or 10,000 watt-seconds of flash power. Be courteous of you fellow HPS members and try not to block shots or spend all your time on one thing. This will be a participation sport and we would love for you to participate in it. Have fun with this and don't take it too seriously.
